Wisdom is rarely recognised while we are living through the experiences that create it.
Pain, grief, loss, fear, failure and difficult choices can eventually become understanding, compassion and strength.
The final revelation is that the lessons of a lifetime do not disappear with death. They remain within us and guide the path ahead.

Proem

“The deepest horror is not that darkness exists within us.
It is believing that darkness is all that we are.”

Stanza I — The Shadows of London

In London’s fog where shadows creep,
And ancient griefs refused their sleep,
Where witches whispered through the veil,
Demons wear human skin, bloodless and pale,

I thought the monsters prowled the night,
With bloodstained teeth and ravaged bite.
Yet deep beneath that gothic art,
The darkness lives within a broken heart.

For every beast that stalked the street,
Had softer ghosts beneath its feet.
Not claws, nor fangs, nor the cursed moon’s glow,
But wounds too deep for flesh to show.

Stanza II — The Burden of Light

Vanessa walked where angels wept,
Where guilt and longing coiled and crept.
She bore the burden many know,
To fear the self that dwells below.

Not because darkness made her weak,
But for the light she’d failed to keep.
For every soul at war inside,
Knows both the saint and beast reside.

Stanza III — Creation’s Chain

Poor Frankenstein sought death’s defeat,
Yet found his triumph incomplete.
For grief, once buried, still remains,
And follows through creation’s chains.

The Creature wandered, broken, bare,
A heart abandoned to despair.
He asked the world for simple grace,
Yet found disgust in every face.

And who among us has not known,
The cold of standing there alone?
To crave a hand, a voice, a friend,
And watch the darkness slowly descend.

Stanza IV — The Beast Accepted

Ethan fled the wolf within,
That primal thing beneath the skin.
Yet what we exile, what we hide,
Returns with greater strength inside.

For shadows do not die from scorn,
They gather power when ignored.
The beast accepted loses teeth,
The beast denied grows strong beneath.

Stanza V — The Hollow Maze

And Dorian, blessed with endless days,
Drifted through pleasure’s hollow maze.
For when tomorrow cannot end,
Meaning fades and passions bend.

The curse was never growing old.
The curse was never death’s cruel hold.
The curse was having everything,
Yet finding nothing left to cherish deep.

Stanza VI — The Rising Flame

And so the lesson slowly came,
Beneath the blood and hellfire flame.

The greatest monsters are not made
Of vampire’s curse or devil’s trade.

They rise when shame becomes a name.
When suffering hardens into blame.
When wounded hearts begin to see
Their scars as all they’ll ever be.

Stanza VII — The Blooming Truth

Yet somewhere in the endless night,
Beyond the war of wrong and right,
A quieter truth begins to bloom,
Like roses growing from a tomb.

That we are not our darkest thought.
Not every battle can be fought.
Not every wound can disappear.
Not every ending brings us cheer.

But still we stand.
And still we love.
And still we raise our eyes above.

Though carrying grief from years before,
Though tired to the very core.

Stanza VIII — Remaining Human

For courage was never conquering fear.
It was walking beside it year by year.

And redemption was never becoming pure.
It was remaining human while we endure.

So let the witches chant and call.
Let ancient kings and demons crawl.

For every horror ever penned,
Returns unto thyself in the end.

Coda

And there within the candle’s glow,
Lies the truth we fear to know:

The monster and the miracle share one skin.
The war was never out… but within.
